Dear Birthmother,

Hello, we are Chris & Xchel (pronounced “É-shell”) and we are so excited you have chosen our profile to take a closer look. We understand you are preparing to make one of the most important decisions of your life. Regardless of the circumstances that have brought you to this time in your life, we truly hope you feel supported and loved all the way through this process of choosing a family for your baby. Our own journey that has brought us here has been an emotional and bumpy one as we have struggled through 5 years of infertility, but also immense joy as we experienced the adoption of our first child, Amelia. As you explore our profile and take a peek into our lives, we hope you feel a little of the warmth, joy and love that we are ready to shower upon another baby.

About Us

We met over thirteen years ago, during Xchel’s last semester of college. It was a chance encounter on a Friday night that started the next decade of our lives together. We both have a passion for fixing up old homes and making them beautiful again, which is something we bonded over and eventually made into our own business. We are both bilingual in Spanish and are passing this on to our children, starting with little Amelia who already speaks as much Spanish as she does English. Adventure is our jam! We are always on the look-out for new adventures, both in our work and in our family time. We travel quite often and are excited to continue doing so as a growing family.

States We Have Visited: New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Maryland, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, and Hawaii.
Countries We Have Visited: Canada, Mexico, Spain, France, and Morocco.

ABOUT CHRIS
Chris is a Texas native with many friendships going all the way back to before middle-school. He has a fun extrovert personality and loves hosting gatherings for family and friends. He loves to cook, has a wide variety of music interests, and takes on many DIY projects where he finds ways in which Amelia can help and they can spend lots of quality time together. He has also helped raise five Godchildren of all ages, from the time they were babies to now young adults. He enjoys the outdoors and looks forward to one day soon setting out on a family-style wilderness park RV trip around the United States.

ABOUT XCHEL
Xchel was born on the warm beaches of Mexico’s southern coast. She lost her father as a young child and her single mother moved them to Washington State where Xchel was raised in a small town and surrounded by vast nature. She always felt the happiest in the sunshine and warmth so she moved to Texas for college and to be closer to her grandparents. This is where she would later meet and fall in love with Chris. Xchel considers herself an outgoing introvert who enjoys the company of close friends but also appreciates her quiet time to read, meditate and be in nature. She is already introducing Amelia to the practices of mindfulness and the peace of nature walks.

ABOUT AMELIA
Amelia came to be our daughter in 2021. Her birth mama had found us through Everlasting Adoptions while she was still in the early stages of her pregnancy. We communicated often during her pregnancy and we all came to share a very special bond. We were so blessed to meet and hold baby Amelia right after her birth, this was the most incredible experience! We have an open-adoption relationship with her birthparents right up to this day, and they hold a very special place in our hearts and in our lives.

Amelia is now two years old, going on three, and she is such a fun little kid. She is really outgoing and wants to make friends with everyone she meets. She is full of energy and loves running around outside and swimming, anything with water is her favorite. She really enjoys going to her kids-day-out class a couple days a week, where she gets to play with her friends and work on crafts to bring home to us. She gets super excited for her swimming lessons and tumble gymnastics classes. We take her about once a week to an amazing hands-on children’s museum where she can play and learn about all sorts of new things. Right now she is learning colors and numbers in Spanish, her favorite colors are pink and purple, and her favorite foods are fruits, berries and pasta.

We have one sweet Shar Pei dog, Chanel. She is older now but you would not know it to see her get excited when it's time to go on a walk. We have had her since she was a little puppy, she is the little protector of our home. She is eternally loyal to the family and is always right at our heels. Her favorite things are walks and sun bathing on the back patio.

Our Home

Our home is located in a pleasant little community on the outskirts of town. We enjoy community amenities like a pavilion, pool, playground, and jungle gym. Our neighborhood caters to families with young children, with such conveniences as private access to a highly-rated elementary school. Our social committee plans group picnics and holiday gatherings. The entrances to our neighborhood are gated and monitored by security cameras. We have two big natural state parks with lots of hiking trails within 10 minutes of our area. Our neighbors are diverse and range from professional working couples, to growing families, to friendly retirees that enjoy sharing the wisdom of their years.

We live in a big red-brick house on a quiet cul de sac. We have a green grassy backyard with flower beds and a beautiful Spanish oak tree that gives pleasant shade on sunny days. We really enjoy sitting on our back patio with our coffees while Amelia plays in the fresh morning air. Since we both work from home, we have a big home-office and also plenty of room for the kids to spread out with their toys.

Our Extended Family

Xchel's childhood was filled with adventures, nature explorations and outdoor games. Her mom and half-sister still live in Washington State on the small farm where she grew up with horses, donkeys, goats & chickens. Xchel is very close to her grandmother, her aunt Jackie and her three cousins who live nearby. They meet up regularly for dinners, game-nights, birthdays, holidays and family vacations.

Chris’ mother and brother live close by. Unfortunately, his father passed away in 2010. As a young boy, Chris would vacation with his parents to Europe where his father was from. He is very close with his mother Rosa (aka Mama Parra), who spends a lot of time at their home helping with cooking, gardening and house projects. Mama Parra is wonderfully excited to welcome her first grandchild! Chris also has cousins that live a couple hours away and come to visit for celebrations and holidays.

Our Family Traditions

Thanksgiving is the holiday we host at our home for the entire family, we like to focus on the main courses and everyone brings a side dish, dessert or beverage as their contribution. Before eating we go around the table expressing what we are thankful for and what we will try to be better at.

Christmas is Chris’ favorite holiday and we go all out decorating for this one! We take turns with his mom and brother hosting Christmas dinner. Then for New Years we take a winter family vacation for a week full of skiing and sledding, and then settle in for board games by the warm fire. On New Years Eve we take turns saying out loud our goals we will be pursuing in the new year.

Easter is Mama Parra’s favorite holiday and she hosts this day at her home. We arrive in time to help with the cooking and prepare for a day full of delicious food. We do an egg hunt with confetti eggs and also a few special eggs with money inside. The egg hunt is Amelia’s favorite part and the older cousins help her find and gather her eggs. Then there is the post-hunt cracking of the eggs and confetti in everyone’s hair. The family usually brings their dogs along and Amelia loves playing with all the pups and chasing each-other around.

We also take a family vacation every summer, usually to a tropical beach destination. We rent a big house where the whole family can spend the week together. We pass the days playing on the beach and in the waves, snorkeling, sailing, eating lots of seafood and exploring the local village markets.

For Halloween, one of our good friends hosts an annual Halloween party with a dress up theme. We enjoy dressing up the whole family in costumes and heading over to his house which is on a very popular trick-or-treating street. Everyone brings bags of candy and we spend the evening passing out candy as Amelia greets all the other little children with their adorable costumes.

What Led Us To Adoption

We tried to have a biological child of our own for over 5 years but we struggled with unexplained infertility. We wanted more than anything to share our lives, our blessings, and the love of our families with a baby. We were blessed to adopt an amazing baby girl in 2021, and we are now ready to grow our family again through adoption! We are so grateful to have this opportunity to adopt again, and to spend the rest of our lives raising, loving and encouraging these beautiful little souls to chase their dreams in life!
