Dear Birthmother,

We appreciate you taking the time to get to know us. Although we haven’t met yet, we admire your strength and courage in considering an adoption plan. We can never truly know exactly what you’re feeling, but we can reassure you that we will surround a child with the utmost love and affection. We will provide a happy, loving home and support all opportunities from infancy and into adulthood. We hope this profile will give you some insight into our lives and the type of life that we can offer a child. A sincere thank you for even considering us as potential adoptive parents and for giving us hope.

About Us

After meeting in early 2020, we had only gone on a handful of dates before the pandemic started and forced a widespread lock down across Kansas City. Guided by our hearts, we decided that the best option was for us to quarantine together rather than separately. We truly got to know each other while doing day to day activities such as cooking, folding laundry, and walking our dog. Our relationship continued to grow and eventually, we fell in love along the way.

We got engaged, planned our wedding and were married in the chapel that Ashley had always wanted to be married in since she was a little girl. We were fortunate to spend our honeymoon in Maui, HI to kickstart our new marriage.

Together we love to travel, camp, hike, and spend time with friends and family. We value our strong communication with each other, being fiscally responsible, and being life-long learners by challenging ourselves with something new each year. At the same time, we still very much appreciate the little things in life like rainy days, coffee dates, taking our dog for walks, and game nights with friends.

Through the process of trying to start a family, our love for one another has only strengthened. There is no one else we’d rather walk beside while trying to navigate through infertility. We are ready to give our unconditional love to a child and expand our family through the blessing of adoption!

About Ashley

I grew up in Kansas City with a family that encouraged me to embrace my passions. I was enrolled in art and language classes at an early age, and in the summer months, I spent my time learning to quilt and sew from my great aunt.

Determined to make fashion my future I never put down a needle and thread. After graduating high school, I studied apparel design at Stephens College. I’ve had the privilege of designing for many major brands, myself and also getting to pass on the lessons I’ve learned to students as a college professor. To this day, you’ll still find me sewing, painting and getting as much fresh air as possible in my free time. My days are even better spent when I can coax Nick and our German Shepherd, Heidi, to join me under a bright blue sky.

Get to Know Nick

I was born in South Carolina, but my family moved to Indiana when I was a three-year-old. Growing up, I spent a lot of my time reading, playing competitive soccer and fishing in the pond behind my childhood home. Once I graduated high school, I moved to Milwaukee, WI for an undergraduate degree and then to Omaha, NE for my medical degree. I was fortunate to match at my top residency location in Kansas City, MO. While in training, I fell in love with the city and decided to join a local private pediatric practice. Being a community pediatrician has been very rewarding and a dream come true.

In my spare time, I enjoy being with Ashley, our dog, Heidi, family, and friends. I enjoy being outdoors whether it be hiking, camping, fishing, or simply working in our yard. I enjoy playing guitar, pickleball, and golf.

Our Home

We love our cozy little home and riverside area just north of downtown Kansas City. We feel it is a nice blend between being close enough to the city to enjoy its many restaurants, art centers/museums, and sporting venues while getting to come home to a quiet suburban neighborhood.

Our local parks and recreation team recently made a paved trail through the woods that leads directly to a nearby elementary school. We enjoy walking our dog throughout the neighborhood and other close walking trails.

We love sitting on our back patio for a morning coffee or evening meal under our Wisteria covered pergola. Our dog enjoys us throwing her toys or frisbees any time of day! Every year we plant vegetables in our English-styled garden. It’s wonderful to harvest tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants, squash, and herbs.

One of our spare bedrooms has been a multipurpose room that we cannot wait to make a nursery. We have created a home filled with love and comfort and are just missing the pitter patter of little feet.

Our Extended Family

Ashley

They say that home is where the heart is, and I’m lucky to have experienced this to the fullest extent. I was born and raised in a good home that sat in suburban Kansas City. My parents met while in college; my mom is from a small town in Kansas and my dad migrated to the Midwest from the East Coast. The two married and chose to start their future and their family here, in Kansas City. My parents worked hard to allow my siblings and me every opportunity in life. We had such freedom to explore and experience all there was to offer, within reason, of course. They supported our dreams and always encouraged us to shoot for the moon. While we lost my dad too soon, my mom’s still always on the other end of the phone line whenever I need an ear, which is usually daily! One way I’d love to repay my parents is to offer my child that same love and virtues in life that we were given. I want any child under our roof to feel so loved and supported in all walks of life.

Nick

My parents met while my dad was stationed in San Antonio, TX and my mom was visiting her sister who was receiving treatments for cancer. They met on a blind date set up by a priest and have been together ever since! My parents had my brother and me, settled in Indiana and have been married for nearly 40 years. Growing up, my parents emphasized the importance of reading and education. I am very thankful my brother and I were given the opportunity to try several different sports, activities, and organizational groups. My older brother, my sister-in-law, and two nephews also live in Indiana. We are fortunate to see them several times throughout the year.

Fun Fact

Our parents get along very well and share a love of photography. They recently went on an African Safari together and had a wonderful time!

Our Family Traditions

Every Sunday, we head over to Ashley’s mom’s house to share a meal together which we creatively call “Family Dinner.” We take turns providing the main dish and get to update each other on our lives.

We got engaged on Saturday December 4, 2020 with our families there to celebrate. It was such an exciting and memorable weekend for us that we celebrate a “Mini Christmas” on December 4th and 5th every year.

Nick’s family has some traditions around fishing and music. There has been a 25+ year fishing competition called Troutenheimer in which everyone camps at the same spot in rural Minnesota. Ashley was the first female participant ever and recently came in second place by a difference of only an eighth of an inch! The winner gets their name on an ever-growing trophy and bragging rights for the year. In the summer, there is a family music festival at the same rural Minnesota location. Nick and his brother performed two songs as the “opener’ for their uncle.

What Led Us To Adoption

Why Adoption

We have experienced many ups and downs while trying to start a family. Even though we have been unable to have a child of our own, we believe we can provide our adoptive child with all the love, patience, and support. We are committed as future parents to give our child every opportunity in this world the way our parents gave us.

Our Promise

We thank you for taking the time to learn more about our family. Thank you for considering an adoption plan as one of your choices. We can only imagine what an overwhelming decision this is to make. We hope this book gave you a glimpse about us and may help you in making your choice. Please know that no matter what you choose, we wish you and your child all the best. We look forward to meeting you!
