Dear Birthmother,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter. We are so excited to welcome a little girl into our home. We hope that you find our family story to be a perfect fit for the baby you are carrying into this world. Our names are Tanisha, Donte and Bayje. I am the mom, Donte is the dad and Bayje is the big sister. Almost 2 years ago, we experienced a stillbirth and lost our daughter, Alexia. Tanisha almost lost her life in the process, as well. We believe adoption is the best choice to grow our family and to give Bayje the little sister that she has wanted and us the daughter we have prayed on for many years.

Love, Tanisha, Donte and Bayje

About Us

We are truly best friends and have been married for 20 years. We met in college and were best friends for almost a year before we started dating. We were engaged for 3 years before getting married, which helped build the foundation for our friendship.

We both majored in education. Tanisha has a Doctorate and Donte has a Masters Degree. We value education and are involved in social justice work. Since the age of 5, Tanisha knew she wanted to be a teacher. She has taught 1st, 2nd and 6th grade students. Donte was at one time interested in law enforcement, but turned to education instead. We both began our career in the same school and taught together for 16 years before Tanisha moved to a new position outside of the school district.

We like to watch movies and are Marvel fans. We have seen each movie, most on opening weekend, and sometimes in costumes. Donte is a Blerd (black nerd) and is a huge Star Wars, Marvel and DC Fan. Tanisha is a romantic comedy buff.

Bayje is our only child that is still living with us at home. She is an athlete and plays soccer, basketball, dances, swims and is an actress. She loves to play pranks and is such a great friend and person.

Our Home

We live in a single family home in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Seattle. Our home is two-stories and consists of 4 bedrooms, 2 ½ baths and an open backyard. We live one block from an elementary school. We live around the corner from a farm, community center, library and a variety of restaurants. The city we live in is diverse and we have opportunity to be around all kinds of people. There are lots of cultural opportunities from showcases, to festivals, to restaurants, to productions. We socialize with very diverse people and learn a lot about each other that way. There is a nursery ready and waiting for a baby to join it.

Our Extended Family

Our family is very special and not at all traditional. We have four children, 3 living and 1 angel baby. Bayje is our biological daughter and is 11 years old. She was conceived through IVF after 6 years of trying natural methods. Because of the age difference, Bayje has been raised as an only child and loves the time she gets to spend with her brothers.

Delvonte is 24 years old. We adopted him at 11 after he came to us through foster care at the age of 8. He was always athletic and once he lived with us he played basketball, football and ran track. He struggled finding his way in high school, but with structure and school and family support he graduated and is currently in college studying to be a sports trainer. He has always loved children and is excited to be a big brother again.

Lonzell will be 23. He is Delvonte's biological brother and came to our family with him. It was very difficult for him to attach and be happy because of his background of neglect and abuse. We sought out birth relatives that wanted to help co-parent when he was adopted at 10 and he lived between both families until graduation. We see him a few times a year. We remain a stable presence in his life and keep up through texts and social media.

We value friends and we both have friends in our lives that have been important to us for over 20 years. Our friends are very diverse; rich, poor, gay, straight, cross racial, near, far, etc. We attract people who tend to be social justice and equity focused.

Our Family Traditions

We value travel as we feel it brings us closer as a family. We go on a family vacation every February, April and July. Last year we spent time in Europe and the goal for next year is Australia. We go on cruises almost every year and we try to find cool things to do even here at home. One of our travel traditions is to go to Comic-Con in San Diego every year. We all dress up and get to be around our favorite super heros!

We celebrate all major holidays. Our favorite is Christmas. Each Christmas season we see a theater performance and create a Christmas outing, which includes taking pictures with Santa, having a special dinner and doing a fun event. Bayje hosts a Christmas cookie party and invites up to 10 of her closest friends to bake and have holiday fun. The grandparents are a big part of this season and others as well and we spend a lot of time with them.

What Led Us To Adoption

Adoption for us means nourishing a life with love, strength and the opportunity to grow our family. The gift of raising a girl, by planting seeds of hope knowing that she would add beauty and joy to the world.

I adopted our son as a newborn after going through 12 years of infertility. Now, 23 years later, I am director at Everlasting Adoptions. Shortly after adopting our son, I started to feel a calling towards adoption. My career as a Human Resource Manager in Corporate America came to an end, and I entered what I now know is my purpose and passion in life — building families through the miracle of adoption.

Working with birthmothers and adoptive parents throughout the US for over 20 years has allowed me to utilize the skills I have been blessed with to serve others. I come to work every day not as a staff member coming to a job from 9 to 5, but as a person who is extremely dedicated and devoted to helping people like you every single day. I feel very blessed to have found my purpose, and I look forward to helping you with your adoption needs!
