In Michella's family there are several annual get togethers. Every fall, we have a pumpkin carving contest, play cornhole while the kids play outside, and have a bon fire for hot dogs and s’mores. It is always so fun to get the adult and kid cousins together to catch up and have a good time. Every Christmas, Michella and her siblings take their families to Meme and Popol’s to have a sleep over. Her parents always buy the grandkids matching pajamas and they open their stockings on Christmas Eve. Then we wake up and have Christmas breakfast and open presents. After that, all her extended family comes over for games and a gift exchange. We make a lot of finger foods and eat them all day long. It is such a fun time that we look forward to all year! For Easter, Meme and Popol buy all the kids Easter baskets and then they hunt for eggs. We always make Chow Mein for Easter, which is a recipe given to our family by a Chinese man who was a neighbor to Michella's Great-Great Grandparents 80 years ago.
With Michella’s dad’s side of the family being Mexican, we also have a favorite tradition of making tamales together. Unfortunately, Moriah did not get to meet her Grandma Mary, but through a few of our favorite recipes of hers, our kids will hear about her and learn how to make the foods themselves for their future families.
In Jeremiah’s family, we enjoy going to family reunions and getting to reconnect with all his extended family. It is always fun to watch the kids meet their cousins and play with them all day. We usually have a big fish fry and a favorite tradition, homemade donuts.
We also love Christmas at Nonnie and Poppie’s. We get together with all the extended family and make a day out of playing games with the cousins. The kids always leave with lots of goodies and we get to spend real quality time with our family.
