Dear Birthmother,

Thank you for considering our profile. We are John and Lorien from Seattle, Washington. When we first started talking about growing a family, the possibility of adoption was something we were always interested in. After trying unsuccessfully to conceive through fertility treatments, we know that we are meant to build our family through adoption.

We believe it is a huge honor to become adoptive parents and we open our arms to your child with all our love and commitment. We do not know the situation you are currently in, but we can definitely respect any parent that’s looking to ensure their child has the best life available to them. We know this is a huge decision for you. We hope that looking at our pictures and reading about our lives brings you comfort in knowing that your child would be loved and provided with all the opportunities they need to grow in life.

About Us

We met in 2010 through work and immediately became friends. From there we learned how much we had in common; from our sense of humor (we really like messing with each other), to our values and personalities. Our friendship blossomed into a relationship and we married 4 years later in 2015. We recently bought a new home in the suburbs of Seattle with plans to expand our family. We've always wanted to have at least 2 children (at least 1 being adopted), so they always have each other. We both grew up with siblings and value having someone so close in age to relate to and share experiences with.

We’re a traditional family with strong values around having a solid moral compass, keeping an open mind about the world around you, treating your fellow man as you’d want to be treated and supporting your family. We’re both college graduates and value the importance of education. We’re silly at heart and not ashamed to admit we still love cartoons. We love our friends, we love our family and we can’t wait to bring a child into our world!

Our Home

We live in a 2-story house built in 2018. It has 4 bedrooms with 1 ready to be converted into a nursery. Our common areas consist of a loft filled with games, a bonus room to watch our movies and a nice size family room that opens right into the dining room and the kitchen. Outside we have a nice side yard with plenty of room for playing and a covered deck for lounging.

Our community is made up of diverse families. We are near a neighborhood park and reside in one of the top school districts in the state. We are only a few miles from a great shopping district, tons of restaurants, lots of hiking areas and another beautiful park that sits off of Lake Washington with a beach, a nicely maintained play area, food and tons of areas for families to just hangout. The surrounding area allows us to enjoy city life and the great outdoors. We are within 25 miles of both Seattle and Bellevue, where we’re able to attend many festivals, sporting events and other family activities. We are also within 20 miles of more rural areas that expose us to hiking trails, waterfalls, mountains with scenic views and large lakes for fun water activities.

Our Extended Family

We both are blessed to have very close-knit families. Our families have taught us the meaning of love and we are thankful for their support. Lorien's parents are happily married. Her mother is an experienced pre-school teacher with a degree in child psychology. She also has an older brother and sister-in-law, all of whom live only a few miles from our home. John’s immediate family lives in St. Louis, Missouri, which consist of a younger sister and happily married parents. His mother is a retired nurse with multiple degrees in healthcare and has great experience in child care. He also has a god sister who lives in Florida, happily married with a beautiful little daughter, whom we adore.

Between our families, we currently have three very adorable cousins that would be close in age to our baby. Amour (3 yrs), Sei (2 yrs), and Layla (1 yr) are all just bundles of joy and would love to have a new playmate in their lives. Our families are eager to give a new baby unconditional love.

Our Family Traditions

Each year we generally alternate between Thanksgiving and Christmas on whose family we will spend that particular holiday with. Even though John’s extended family is somewhat smaller and further away, we want to ensure we’re able to make just as many loving memories with them. Lorien has a very large extended family who primarily live in Seattle. Holidays such as, Thanksgiving and Christmas, always bring the greater family together where we have a grand feast.

What Led Us To Adoption

When we first started talking about growing a family, the possibility of adoption was something we were always interested in. The idea of helping a child that needs a family brought us joy. After trying unsuccessfully to conceive through fertility treatments, we know that we are meant to start building our family through adoption.

I adopted our son as a newborn after going through 12 years of infertility. Now, 23 years later, I am director at Everlasting Adoptions. Shortly after adopting our son, I started to feel a calling towards adoption. My career as a Human Resource Manager in Corporate America came to an end, and I entered what I now know is my purpose and passion in life — building families through the miracle of adoption.

Working with birthmothers and adoptive parents throughout the US for over 20 years has allowed me to utilize the skills I have been blessed with to serve others. I come to work every day not as a staff member coming to a job from 9 to 5, but as a person who is extremely dedicated and devoted to helping people like you every single day. I feel very blessed to have found my purpose, and I look forward to helping you with your adoption needs!
