Dear Birthmother,

Our names are Larry and Tonya. We are recently married, but have been a couple for the past four years. After two years together it was clear to us that we wanted to have a child. However, after two painful miscarriages, we made the decision that we would not try again. This year we decided we wanted to pursue adoption. We have so much love for children and could provide a great home and family.

About Us

Larry grew up as a military brat and moved quite a lot, as expected. He is very close with his family even when they have lived far apart. Larry joined the Air Force when he turned 21. He spent eight years stationed in Wichita, KS and did one tour to Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan. After medically retiring he earned a degree in Supply Chain and Logistics and now works for The Boeing Company.

Tonya grew up in rural Kansas on a farm/ranch. The closest town only had about 400 people and many of those were relatives. Her family all still live in that same rural area of Kansas. At 18, Tonya started her first job at Walmart as a snack bar associate. She earned her degree while working and became assistant manager. She is now a store manager and has been with Walmart for 25 years.

Our kids, Peyton (15), Dylan (12) and Mylena (10) were super excited when we told them we were looking into adoption. They have really embraced Larry as a stepdad and they respect him as a parent. They understand why we would want to have another child to raise together. It is very important for us to build memories together as a family. We make a point to take a family vacation together every year.

Our Home

We live in a nice, middle class, suburban neighborhood. It's very quiet and great for walking. All of the neighbors are friendly and we know several of them well. Our home has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, so everyone has their own room. We also have a guest room that will become the nursery and a large rec room in our basement that would make for a great play area. We have a nice fenced in yard with plenty of room for a future swing set, kiddie pool, etc. and a nice deck for family get togethers or just to relax.

Tonya enjoys planting a garden each year and flowers in the spring. We are within a mile from 2 nice parks. The community we live in has a lot of fun events at the park, such as fireworks on the 4th of July, barbecue competitions, Easter egg hunts, sporting events, etc. We are also in a very good school district.

Our Extended Family

Larry's parents live in the same town and we usually see them several times a week. They are excellent grandparents, very caring and loving, while at the same time they are very direct and honest. They are both devout Christians. Larry speaks to his sisters daily and his nephew comes to visit every summer.

Tonya also has family that live in the same town as us, her grandmother, her aunt and uncle, who are like a second set of parents to her, and her cousins. Her parents and siblings only live a couple of hours away, and we visit one another often. Tonya has 5 nieces and nephews and one great niece whom she is close with.

Our Family Traditions

Giving back to our communities and the less fortunate is very important to us. Larry and his co-workers volunteer as a group at the Lord’s Diner. Every year they donate 6-7 Thanksgiving meals for Air Force families. He also volunteers for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He has a little brother that he spends time with mentoring and providing support. He has earned them $500 through his company's matching program.

Tonya is also highly engaged in community events and nonprofits to try to give back to the communities that support her store and associates. She values the ability to mentor and develop associates and help many advance to management positions over the years. She also serves on a committee for the American Cancer Society and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and the Kansas food bank.

What Led Us To Adoption

We wanted to have a child together, and although we were able to get pregnant, Tonya was unable to carry the baby past the first trimester, resulting in miscarriages. Both of our employers help with adoption funding, so we started looking into it as an option. We had talked about it a few times when our niece came to visit for a week with her new baby. It was then we knew we were ready to move forward to try to adopt a baby of our own.

I adopted our son as a newborn after going through 12 years of infertility. Now, 23 years later, I am director at Everlasting Adoptions. Shortly after adopting our son, I started to feel a calling towards adoption. My career as a Human Resource Manager in Corporate America came to an end, and I entered what I now know is my purpose and passion in life — building families through the miracle of adoption.

Working with birthmothers and adoptive parents throughout the US for over 20 years has allowed me to utilize the skills I have been blessed with to serve others. I come to work every day not as a staff member coming to a job from 9 to 5, but as a person who is extremely dedicated and devoted to helping people like you every single day. I feel very blessed to have found my purpose, and I look forward to helping you with your adoption needs!
