Dear Birthmother,

We are Ed and Janelle from Port Orchard, WA. If you are reading this, it's because you are in the unique position to change our lives. We know this must be an incredibly hard decision and are just so grateful you are taking the time to read this.

We are finally ready to start a family through adoption. Janelle was adopted at birth and it turned into such a blessing for everyone involved. We have found so much love through our family, whether we share blood or not. We are all eager to welcome another loved child into our family. We can't thank you enough for even taking the time to read this and truly hope the best for you.

About Us

Janelle was adopted at birth, so when it came to decide how to grow our family, adoption was a clear option.

We met in college as partners in a sparring class. Ed, either not realizing his strength or not expecting Janelle to put up that much of a fight, launched her across the room. She then had the completely logical reaction to charge at him and knocked him over! We still look back at how we met and laugh. Amazingly that was almost ten years ago. We did spend a lot of time dating and finally got married in 2013.

Ed grew up in Oregon and Illinois and has a younger brother. He has been involved in sports his whole life and has been doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the last 9 years. Janelle grew up in Hawaii and Oregon as an only child. She has always enjoyed crafts, reading and swimming.

Last year life threw us a curve ball when a friend asked us to care for her daughter as foster parents. It was a difficult experience with a lot of bumps in the road, from struggling with school, keeping a clean room, finding YouTube, etc. By the end of the year we succeeded in what we set out to do. She graduated 6th grade with almost straight A's, learned a ton of new strategies to deal with her siblings and enjoyed being very spoiled.

What we gained from the experience was unexpected, but also wonderful; a lot of joy and a different family dynamic that we grew to love.

Our Home

Last year we were fortunate enough to buy our first home in the town of Port Orchard, WA. We love the small town feel of Port Orchard where we see the same faces and it feels friendly. Our house is a large, three bedroom on over six acres. The backyard is fenced for the dogs and just behind it sits a natural creek, called Curly Creek. We often see wildlife around it. We are also a short drive from the ferry that takes us to Seattle.

Our Extended Family

Both of our families are actively involved in our lives. We talk to Ed's parents every Sunday and they tend to drive up for visits every other month or so. Janelle’s family lives in Mexico, but that doesn’t mean we don’t get plenty of quality time with them. Our property has enough space to host Janelle's parents and their two sweetheart dogs, Kona and Kekoa for the whole summer. From July to October they camp out of their RV on our property. With them comes weekend BBQs or fajita and margarita nights, as well as an amazing amount of help maintaining the property. After October, the RV stays stored on the property and her parents head back to Mexico where Janelle chats with her mom on the phone daily.

Our Family Traditions

Thanksgiving is a major holiday we celebrate with Ed's family and we have been fortunate enough to start calling dibs on hosting. Ed's parents, brother, niece, nephew and somehow their dog join us for a fun day of food and football. Janelle is always happy to keep the kids busy with crafts, while Ed goes to work in the kitchen with his mom.

Though most of the traditional food is present, we do have a couple of odd additions that come from Janelle’s family. In addition to the turkey, we also do a roasted chicken, and since Janelle loves it so much we have a salad. Well a fruit salad, but it’s still technically a salad, right?

What Led Us To Adoption

We are ready to expand our family and know that families come in many different shapes and sizes.

I adopted our son as a newborn after going through 12 years of infertility. Now, 23 years later, I am director at Everlasting Adoptions. Shortly after adopting our son, I started to feel a calling towards adoption. My career as a Human Resource Manager in Corporate America came to an end, and I entered what I now know is my purpose and passion in life — building families through the miracle of adoption.

Working with birthmothers and adoptive parents throughout the US for over 20 years has allowed me to utilize the skills I have been blessed with to serve others. I come to work every day not as a staff member coming to a job from 9 to 5, but as a person who is extremely dedicated and devoted to helping people like you every single day. I feel very blessed to have found my purpose, and I look forward to helping you with your adoption needs!
