"A Birthmother's Choice"

Kelly from Indiana Discusses Her Adoption Experience

An Expectant Mother’s Choice

I was a single mother of two and found myself pregnant again. The father wanted nothing to do with the baby. I was 21 years old without a high school degree and knew I was headed down a no win path. When my youngest daughter was born, my family was against the adoption; they said they would help me. For three weeks they were there for me, and then they were gone. My mom is too busy trying to figure out her own life and my dad has never been around. I was alone again. I had plans to give my daughters a happy, loving, stable life, one that I never knew as a child.

I talked with agencies and answered ads in the newspaper and on line, but found everyone cold and not caring to my needs or feelings. I guess I was just hormonal. I came in contact with Everlasting Adoptions and immediately felt a bond. They were warm, sensitive and easy to talk with, and a live person always answered the phone! I had been so turned off by so many voice mails. I chose a wonderful family. They were more than I could have ever asked for. We became so close. They were there in the delivery room for the birth of their son. I knew when I saw the love in their faces this was meant to be. This was the answer to their prayers and Gods plan all along. We cried and laughed. It was something I will never forget! I had the chance to hold and feed my baby, which helped give me some closure.

My son’s parents have given him the life he deserved. Thank God I didn’t choose abortion. After getting my GED I am now an administrative assistant making more money than I ever thought I would. More importantly, I am in my second semester of college working towards my degree. My daughter’s have a room of their own decorated in Winnie the Pooh.

I didn’t give up my son because I didn’t love him, but because I wanted the best possible life for him, because I DO love him! When I get pictures and letters from the family, I see he is a happy little boy who has all the things possible that I wished I had growing up. I know I made the right choice for my baby, and that I will always be one lucky couple’s Angel!

I adopted our son as a newborn after going through 12 years of infertility. Now, 23 years later, I am director at Everlasting Adoptions. Shortly after adopting our son, I started to feel a calling towards adoption. My career as a Human Resource Manager in Corporate America came to an end, and I entered what I now know is my purpose and passion in life — building families through the miracle of adoption.

Working with birthmothers and adoptive parents throughout the US for over 20 years has allowed me to utilize the skills I have been blessed with to serve others. I come to work every day not as a staff member coming to a job from 9 to 5, but as a person who is extremely dedicated and devoted to helping people like you every single day. I feel very blessed to have found my purpose, and I look forward to helping you with your adoption needs!
